Pear Pizzazz Elegance

I'm finally posting the card we did at my last stamp club meeting. I'm sorry for the delay for those who missed the meeting and have been wondering what we made. Time is the most precious commodity!

We used a 2" by 4 1/4" strip of clear report cover for the right side, stamping it with the White Staz-on and attaching it on the left edge. Then the embossed panel and the ribbon was layered over the clear piece's adhesive. Both the flower and the fern stamps are from the Growing Green set (120624 for the clear mount). The embossing folder used is Stampin' Up!'s Square Lattice (119976) and the "GRATITUDE" is a portion of the Thanksgiving stamp in Seasonal Sentiments from the Holiday Mini Catalog. The flower is accented with three small pearls from Stampin' Up!'s Basic Pearls (119247). All colors are Pear Pizzazz, except for the White Staz-on on the report cover and Black Staz-on for the main flower.

Retiring Colors Samples

A few weeks ago I did a "Going Away Party" where everyone got to make four cards all with retiring colors. I finally took photos of the cards today, so here they are:

This one uses Brilliant Blue and Gable Green with the Party Hearty set.

This is using Taken with Teal and Close to Cocoa and the Hello Again set.

Apricot Appeal, Pixie Pink, and a strip of Orchid Opulence here, using the Pick a Petal set.

This was the favorite of many... using Creamy Caramel, Bordering Blue and Very Vanilla (not retiring, of course!). The Pocket Silhouettes stamps were used here along with the new Lattice embossing folder and the Butterfly Sizzix die.

Stampin' Up's Color Renovation

Big news from Stampin' Up! this week!!! There is going to be a HUGE "renovation" of the Stampin' Up! colors coming with the new catalog July 1st. They are changing the "color familes" so that now there are going to be four "color collections" plus the "In Color" colors. The collections will contain ten colors each, and each year five new "In Color" colors will be introduced. The "In Color" colors will stay for TWO years, so eventually we'll have ten "In Colors" and thankfully they will be around awhile! Here are the new "Color Collections":

Of course, with change there is always some pain... here are the colors that will soon be gone forever! What will I ever do without Mellow Moss!!!

Spring Scrapbook Page

This was the last project for my scrapbook club. After all the snow, I was in the mood for spring but didn't have any good spring photos so I made an empty page.

We used Certainly Celery for the base with Old Olive Designer Series Paper along the bottom. The flowers were created by paper piecing with a variety of punches and strips of cardstock using Old Olive, Melon Mambo, Basic Black, and some random printed paper retrieved from the recycle bin. This spread is green in more than one way! We also used an assortment of silver brads from the Styled Silver Hodgepodge and the Circle Brads collection, clear buttons, black buttons, and green buttons. I encouraged the club members to make each flower unique from their neighbors and mine... some double punched from the Extra Large Fancy Flower (117191) punch and each with a different arrangement of circle punches and button in the center. The leaves were punched from Old Olive using the large oval punch twice on each leaf.

I punched my title with the Stampin' Up! Simple Letters (115960) dies out of Old Olive card stock, but since I'm not positive what I'll want my title to be until I decide on my photos, I attached the letters to a strip of card stock and attached it temporarily.

Gift Card Holder

I've been taking lots of photos, but none of them have been of my stamping projects. Today I decided to get a project or two photographed for my club members who weren't able to make the meeting and this is one of those. This is a easy gift card holder:

1. Use a 4 1/4" by 7 3/4" piece of cardstock

2. Score at 2 1/2" from one end and 2 1/4" from the other (this will leave you a 3" center panel)

3. Punch the center of each flap with the slit punch from Stampin' Up!

4. Cut the tab part from the middle of the punch on the 2 1/4" flap

5. Measure 1/4" in from the edge on each side of the center panel

6. Use these marks to punch slits to hold the gift card.

7. Decorate as desired

This card was decorated by using a piece of Sticky Pages adhered to Tempting Turquoise card stock and punched with the Extra Large Fancy Flower punch (118073). Then I added the aqua glitter from the Fine Supernova glitter collection. The brad is one of the Circle brads (112571). The leaf and and circle were both punched from Old Olive.

Valentine Treat Container

I got a small order of things in for myself the other day and I had to try out this new Sizzix die right away. This little milk carton is so cute, and just perfect for Valentine's Day. It would be great for any ocassion, really.

On this, I used Mambo Melon card stock and ink and the dot from Enjoy Every Moment. The hearts are from Heart to Heart punch.

Halloween 2-4-6-8 Treat Box

This is a favorite little treat/gift container of mine. It is so simple and quick to make, and doesn't require any special tools. You can make a short container like this one with a 1/2 sheet of card stock, or make a tall skinny one if you use a whole sheet. Here are the directions:

Start with an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of cardstock. Cut it in half to 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" for a short container as shown above, or use the whole sheet for a tall one. Measuring along the 8 1/2" side, score the card stock all the way across at 2", 4", 6", and 8". This should leave you with a 1/2" piece at the one edge, which is your "tab" to apply adhesive on later. Then, turn your card stock 90 degrees and score one line 2" from the edge. Then using scissors, snip the first four score lines from the edge of the paper to the intersecting score line. These are now your flaps for the bottom of the box. Use the scissors to cut off the 1/2" x 2" piece, which is the only waste. Stamp your box as desired and then assemble with a strong adhesive along the 1/2" tab. (I like to use Sticky Strip here.) Fold the bottom flaps in and adhere. Then pinch two sides in and squeeze together. Use a hole punch to punch two holes and run ribbon through to tie the box closed. That's it!

For this Halloween box, I used Basic Black card stock and embossed the Batty wheel with Versamark and clear powder. The tag is from the Eat, Drink, and Be Scary set and was inked with Black, Pumpkin Pie, and Green Galore markers and layered on a Green Galore tag.

Fright Night Page

Wow, has it really been this long! Yikes! I'm sorry!

Well, here is something appropriate for the season... made after Halloween LAST year, but still all current stuff amazingly!

Sets used are: Eat, Drink & Be Scary and the Taffy alphabet. The colors are Lovely Lilac, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie (DSP paper, card stock and ink), and Basic Black. Journaling was done on strips of card stock on the computer.

We're Too Young

I love this saying from this set!!! I truly believe so much of age is a state of mind. I certainly don't think I'm old enough to be... well, never mind...

This card was one I offered my stamp club last month. I used the Golden Oldies set and the large grommets from the Mini Catalog and the Rockabilly DSP from the main catalog. The card base is Kiwi Kiss. The image and verse are stamped on Whisper White. The verse was punched out with the large oval punch and also a few small circles were punched to create the conversation bubble. The image was colored with red and grey inks using the blender pens.

Philadelphia Flower Show Pages

I went to the Philadelphia Flower Show for my first time this year, so I wanted to make a record of my experience. The flowers were gorgeous and it made for great photos. I hope get to go again sometime.

I used Certainly Celery for the base of these pages and the Tea Party DSP on the two edges. I thought there were enough flowers already, so I used butterflies cut with the Stampin' Up! exclusive Beautiful Butterflies Sizzix die. Originally I planned to cut the butterflies from the DSP also, but it was a bit to busy for my taste, so I opted for vellum stamped with Polka-Dots, plain vellum, and Whisper White butterflies.

Birthday Boy Scrapbook Spread

My scrapbook club will be doing this spread this Sunday evening. I conveniently scheduled a birthday theme the month after my son's birthday. :)

I used Bashful Blue as the base for these 12x12 pages. I stamped the party hats from Party Hearty along the bottom in Versamark. Then I stamped the title on an 8.5" x 11" sheet in Whisper White Craft Ink (all except the first letter of course) using the Schoolbook Serif Alphabet. After I got the title on, I ran the sheet through my printer to add the journaling. I stamped the "Celebrate You" from Party Hearty in Kiwi Kiss in and punched it out with the 1 3/4" Circle Punch. I layered that to a Real Red circle cut with the Sizzix circle die and stamped the image again in Bashful Blue and layered that to a Real Red circle too. I layered a piece of 5 1/2" wide Real Red on each outer edge and then layered the Kiwi Kiss over top. Finally I added a "B" cut from chipboard covered with Whisper White using the Serif Essentials dies and added some 1/2" striped Grosgrain and a Jumbo Groment along the bottom edge.

Cherry Blossom Card

I can't believe I made this card three years ago and never posted it! Since the cherry blossoms are nearly out in the D.C. area, I figure now is as good a time as any.

I used So Saffron as the base, with a layer of Mellow Moss, and Naturals White for the image. The flower from Heartfelt Thanks was inked in Blush Blossom and then the edges were rolled in Cameo Coral stamped and cut out. So Saffron ink was used for the center of the main flower. The background flowers were inked in Blush Blossom and "stamped off" once before stamping on the Naturals White layer. The stems were inked with Mellow Moss and stamped off as well. The layer of Mellow Moss cardstock was stamped with Mellow Moss ink using the now retired Canvas background stamp, but any textural stamp would work just fine.

About a 1/2 inch was cut from the bottom front of the card and then the edge was paper pierced and stamped with "spring" from the now retired Everyday Flexible Phrases in So Saffron. Grosgrain and Gingham ribbon were attached through a hole punched with the slot punch to finish it off.

Funky Flower Card

I'm still hooked on that Urban Oasis DSP and still into the funky and fun look. This is the card that my stamping club did last night for their project. It was pretty quick and everyone's looked great when they were done.

I used Basic Black card stock as the base and stamped the Polka Dot background on the top half with Versamark and embossed with clear powder. In case you are looking for this versatile background stamp in the current catalog, you won't find it. It is on the dormant list, meaning it is still available but not shown in the catalog. The item number is 109276 and it's $17.95.

Anyway... after that I put the verse on the Kiwi Kiss patterned paper... this photo actually shows the card done with a rub-on from the "A Perfect Day" rub-on set. Last night I had everyone stamp "It's your day... ENJOY" from the On Your Birthday set since I didn't have enough rub-ons to go around. After attaching that 2 1/4" piece to the card, I pierced along the top edge and tied the black gingham ribbon around the card. I cut the flower using the Sizzix die "Flower Layers" (113458 - $15.95, page 199 of the catalog). I used the three biggest layers and cut the largest from Kiwi Kiss card stock, the middle from the Kiwi Kiss DSP, and the smallest from the card stock. Then the important part... scrunch them all up and then flatten them out to give them texture. Layer the three layers, attach a black button with a glue dot, and thread some green floss through to dress the button up. That's it!

Urban Chic White Rose

I have really been enjoying working with the Urban Oasis Designer Series Paper and the Fifth Avenue Floral set is the perfect companion for creations with a contemporary flair. This is a super simple card that you can create in no time.

First emboss the rose from Fifth Avenue Floral using Basic Black Craft Ink and clear embossing powder and cut it out. Then emboss the verse on a 3.25" x 4.25" piece of the floral DSP using the same method and attach it to the right side of the card. Emboss the large dots on a 2.25" x 4.25" piece of Whisper White with the Stampin' Up! Texturz plate and attach to the left side of the card. Attach a 1/2" wide strip of Kiwi Kiss DSP as shown and mount the rose over top using dimensionals. All done!

Inspired by Nature Sideways

If any of you were to my Stampin' Up! Demonstrator website a few months ago, you already saw the card in the front. Well, I liked it so much I decided to see what it looked like turned on its' side. I like the landscape version that Stampin' Up! designed more, but it was fun to try!

Both cards are done with Kiwi Kiss Textured Card Stock. Urban Garden Designer Series Paper was embossed with white embossing powder using the Inspired by Nature flower. A torn strip of Pacific Point with a tiny strip of Baja Breeze was layered on top of the background paper. The verse was stamped in Pacific Point on a small piece of Whisper White, the two right corners were rounded, then a piece of 5/8" grosgrain ribbon was attached to the left side of the verse with a Filigree brad.

Blue-Eyed Blonde Spread

This was a really fun page to make, with all the funky color and lots of texture. I love these fun photos of my daughter so much, I had to try to make a page as fun to go with them!

I used Basic Black for the base and then layered a 3 1/4" by 11" piece of Kraft along the bottom. I pierced the top and bottom edges of the Kraft. Then I layered circles cut with the Sizzix Circles #2 and Clear Circle out of Kiwi Kiss, Baja Breeze and Urban Oasis Designer Series Papers. The circles cut from card stock I then texturized with the Stampin' Up! Textuz Plates for the Big Shot. I cut the title with the Go Go Boots Alphabet using Black card stock, added a black embossed "December" from the Full Calendar set and '08 with the Go Go Boots Alphabet. I added three pieces from the SoHo Hardware to finish it.

Oh, the journaling I did on the computer and ran the Kraft card stock through. That is my favorite way to journal - ya got a spell checker, ya can reformat, and no screw-ups! Sorry to the Purists who like the handwritting sample... it's just not for me whenever I can avoid it!

Riordan's Baby Card

Here's a baby card I made a few months ago and didn't post... didn't want it on the blog before the receipent got it... but he's probably crawling and talking by now! LOL!

I wanted to personalize the card, and was going to put his name "Riordan" on the card, but only had the Serif Essentials dies at the time. I ended up using only his initials and still had to make it a long card. I used the stars and verse from Nursery Necessities. Stars are stamped on So Saffron with So Saffron ink. The verse is embossed with white on the Bashful Blue background paper. The dry embossing is the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder on Whisper White card stock, run through my Big Shot. Single star is a Stampin' Up! chipboard star covered in So Saffron. Some paper piercing and blue gingham ribbon finish it off.

A Happy Heart with Barely Banana

Okay, last of the last minute Valentine's! This one uses A Happy Heart also, can you tell that is my only Valentine's set right now???

I wanted to try out my Stampin' Up! exclusive Texturz Plates, so this is the first of my finished products. I used the large Polka-dots with Barely Banana card stock, and smooshed dots on the right 3/4 of the card. Then I layered textured Bashful Blue card stock and a small strip of Pixie Pink on top. I stamped both hearts in Pixie Pink on Whisper White card stock and cut/punched them out, and attached both with dimensionals. I added a bit of ribbon and paper piercing to finish it off. That's it! Pretty quick!

A Happy Heart Clear Pillow Box

Sorry, I'm a little late posting this... time just flys by me anymore! Anyway, if you are looking for a last minute Valentine's idea, I'm posting two today...

This is the second of the two projects we did in my last stamp club. The pillow box is cut with the Sizzix Bigz die (Stampin' Up! Item #113466) from clear report covers that my buddie Marie gave me. Thanks Marie!!!

I stamped "I ♥ U" with white Staz-on at the lower right-hand corner of the box. Then I punched a 1 3/4" circle from white textured card stock, stamped the heart from A Happy Heart in Pixie Pink on Whisper White, and stamped the "Happy Valentine's Day" from the set in black on Whisper White. I cut the heart out inside the edge to make it a bit smaller, punched the verse with the Word Window punch, and assembled it all with Stampin' Dimensionals. Oh, I forgot... I put a little glitter on a few spots on the heart before assembling - just to give it a little bling! I tied the Black Gingham ribbon around the box and mounted the heart over top with two dimensionals. Oh!!! Don't forget to put the Good 'n Plenties in first!

A Happy Glittered Heart

This is the first of two projects my stamp club made last night. It's just a simple Valentine that isn't too frilly to give to your guy. And, I promise, this is the last of the Kraft card stock for Valentine's Day this year!

I stamped the Tic-Tac-Toe in Versamark and embossed with black EP on about a 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" square of Kraft. I also covered a small chipboard heart with the two-way glue, including the edges and applied some red ultra-fine glitter to it. I layered the Tic-Tac-Toe to a Basic Black square and attached that to a 4 1/4" square Kraft card. After the glittered Heart dried I attached it as shown with glue dots. A little bit of black gingham through a hole in the lower right-hand corner adds a bit more detail too. Oh my gosh! No dimensionals on this entire card! Wow!

A Happy Riding Hood Red Heart

I like the Kraft Valentine idea so much, that I went for another. This one uses Kraft as the base, with a strip of textured Chocolate Chip next. I pierced the right edge of the Chocolate Chip, then affixed "happy" (cut with the Naturally Serif Sizzix die) on with Two-way glue after I stamped "valentine's day" in Riding Hood Red (of course). Then I tied a Riding Hood Red striped ribbon on and attached a heart stamped on Whisper White with Riding Hood Red with Dimensionals. Finally I attached a Riding Hood Red button with glue dots to the heart.

Kristina's Little Valentine

Ever feel like your lost your stamping MOJO, baby? I had this weekend when I sat down to stamp a Valentine or two. The best thing to help me get my groove back is to copy someone else's great design, maybe making a small change or two, but basically copying the whole thing. So, I used one great source of inspiration, KWernerDesignBlog (http://www.kwernerdesign.com/blog/) to get my mojo back, hope you don't mind, Kristina!

Like Kristina, I used a little 3"x3" Kraft card for this, along with a bit of Real Red embossed with dots along the bottom. For mine, I used the heart from A Happy Heart, stamped in Real Red and cut out. Instead of pale pink, I used Very Vanilla for the scalloped edge near the bottom, and a Vanilla button. The rest is the same.

Celebrate 8 Card

This is a card I did with the leftovers of a scrapbook page I did for my son's last birthday. You can see the pages here: http://1morestamp.blogspot.com/2008/05/celebrate-8.html. It's very simple... I just didn't want to let the left over negative "8" get lost, so I did the card.

I used Bashful Blue card stock and did direct to paper with the white craft ink for the strip of blue. The card is Whisper White with Bashful Blue ink stamped. The "8" is colored with Real Red craft ink and attached with glue dots and silver brads to a circle of the Bashful Blue. I finished it off with now retired Old Olive Twill ribbon.

Enjoy Every Sweet Moment

I'm so glad the Sweet Always DSP made it into the new catalog... I just love it! This card was one I made and then wasn't happy with, so I ripped it apart and re-did it. Okay, I admit, I obsess sometimes... Anyway...

The base card is Chocolate Chip card stock punched with the Scallop Edge Punch. I then punched an additional strip of Chocolate Chip and attached it under the first one and offset it. I pierced all the scallops with the paper piercer too. I stamped some of the flowers from the Enjoy Every Moment set in Chocolate Chip on the upper part of the card, and embossed one flower on Chocolate Chip CS with clear powder and cut out. Then I cut a strip of Sweet Always DSP, stamped "happy" on it in Chocolate Chip and layered that on the card. Finally, I cut a square of Pumpkin Pie, pierced all around that and mounted it over the DSP. I made a Build-a-brad with the DSP and put that in the center of the embossed flower, then mounted that on the Pumpkin Pie with Dimensionals. I thought it still needed something, so I added the 5/8" Chocolate Chip Grosgrain bow - and yes, the holes and bow goes through the front of the card.

Don't Forget the Birds!

I orginally made this treat for the tweeties as a wedding flavor thing, since I liked this color combo so much - although the colors are not that "wedding looking". I thought I'd post it now, since it is so cold today here in the northeast, to remind everyone to take care of their feathered friends outside.

For this one I cut a Top Note from Bravo Burgundy using the Stampin' Up! Big Shot machine, then stamped it with the Bella Toile background stamp using the Bravo Burgundy ink and then sponged the edges with the burgundy ink. The Dreams Du Jour image was stamped with Timber Brown Staz-On on Very Vanilla card stock and watercolored with the ink pads. I cut the image out and layered it over a scalloped square punched from Old Olive. After filling the cello bag and stapling the Top Note on, I tied a Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon around the Top Note at attached the layered image.

Rich Bella Dreams

Bella Toile background and Dreams Du Jour come together with the rich colors of Bravo Burgundy, Old Olive, and Chocolate Chip for this elegant card inspired by a Kristina Werner Color Challenge. I used the Scalloped Edge punch on the edge of the Burgundy, and also on a strip of Old Olive I layered behind the Burgundy - then pierced both layers in the center of each scallop. The focal point was stamped in Staz-On Timber Brown and watercolored from the ink pad lids on Very Vanilla. A ribbon of Chocolate Chip Taffeta adds the finishing touch.

Christmas Photos

This is a Christmas spread I did two years ago but don't think I ever shared. Forgive me if you've seen this before... but for those who haven't, here it is!

First, as you can see, it's not your traditional "Christmas morning" type page. I don't think I had any scrapbook worthy shots that year. I did have lots of "Christmas card photo" shots though, since I had given up on the formal, serious photo and just told the kids to act silly while I clicked away. That year was one of the most fun Christmas photo sessions and I think this page conveys that.

The page is very simple, but you know I like simple. Whisper White with a swatch of Real Red in the middle, edged with black gingham ribbon. I made a large "ornament" by cutting a circle, using Versamark and clear powder to emboss a texture on it, and sponging the edges. This dotted background is retired, but any background stamp would provide interesting texture. A few accent words and a title stamped in black, and journaling done on the computer, and that's all that is to it!

Faux Alligator Skin Purse Card

Wow! I'm sorry it has been so long since I posted... I'll try to be better! :) I've been distracted with Christmas preparations and a new Nikon camera - what can I say! Well, at least the photos should start getting better!

This is a cute and quick card for your female recipents. It can be done in so many combinations of card stock and papers, the creative possiblities are endless. For this one I though I'd try a technique I learned about at the last Stampin' Up! Convention - Faux Alligator Skin. I think this is a perfect application for this technique.

This technique is one I taught at one of my Techniques Classes this past year. All you need is dark colored card stock, a Versamark pad, some clear embossing powder, and a bone folder or other pointy implement. First, cover the card stock with Versamark using the direct-to-paper technique, then cover with clear embossing powder. Using the bone folder, drawn wavy lines through the embossing powder in both directions, tip off the extra and heat. It's that simple!

Water Park Pages

I wanted to share these fun pages with everyone a few days ago (sorry for the delay Lori!), but you know how time can get away from you! Anyway, here they are. This was the last project for my two scrapbooking clubs, BTW.

As you can see, I had some fun taking the photos of this layout! I wanted to show the detail of the button above. I think these little emblishments really add to the fun of this otherwise simple spread. For the buttons, I used small bits of background paper adhered to the clear buttons with Crystal Effects. They really look great in person!

The colors for this one are based on the Muirfield Designer Series Papers, and are Kiwi Kiss, Pacific Point, and Whisper White. I really cheated a little on the last one, as Muirfield DSP really combines Very Vanilla with the other colors, but I think it worked out fine. The base is a 12"x12" sheet of Whisper White, and the letters were cut using the Serif Essentials Big Shot dies from chipboard covered with Whisper White card stock. The small print was done on the computer on Whisper White card stock. Hey, did you notice something here??? This is my first page with NO STAMPS! Oh my, what has happened to me!!!

Christmas with Nursery Necessities

This is the last card from my class featuring Nursery Necessities. It is a super simple card to create since Stampin' Up! carries a star punch that is the perfect size for the large star!

I used Riding Hood Red and Kiwi Kiss as my red and green for this one, both ink and card stock. The ribbon is the striped Riding Hood Red ribbon, and the "Happy Holidays" verse is from Many Merry Messages.

Nursery Necessities "Baby"

Another from my class featuring Nursery Necessities... this being the "baby card" - who would have thought! Had to make one card in the expected style for this set!

For this one, I used Pirouette Pink, or is it Pink Pirouette... I always forget and don't feel like checking right now... Anyway, the patterned paper is from the Sweet Always set (yes, I've been using a ton of that!), and the elephant is stamped in Regal Rose and layered over a Whisper White scallop punch circle. The verse is embossed in white on a strip of Regal Rose and layered over a strip of Whisper White punched with the Scallop Edge Punch. The ribbon is White Taffeta.

Nursery Necessities Boy's Birthday Card

This was another of the cards from my recent class "It's Not Just for Babies". This little sail boat makes the cutest little boy birthday card.

The color combos you could use are nearly limitless, but I chose this striped paper from the Summer Picnic set to determine my color combo. The colors are Bashful Blue, Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive, with some Whisper White as the neutral. I used the 5/8" Old Olive grosgrain to join my layer of textured Bashful Blue and the DSP. No sense in using the textured card stock and covering it up, right? The wavy verse is from Stem Saying and is stamped in Bashful Blue.

Oh, yes, a little paper piercing at the bottom too, I almost forgot that detail!

Halloween Nursery Necessities

Remember those little hints of what to expect from my "It's Not Just for Babies" class back on October 8th? Yesterday was the last of my classes, so now I'll show you the rest of what we did...

This card was very simple, but shows how a change of colors can change the mood of a card. Just visualize this same card with Bashful Blue, Whisper White, and So Saffron... change the "boo" to "baby" and you have a cute, traditional baby card. But, using the Halloween palette changes everything:

On this I used Pumpkin Pie ink and card stock with the Polka Dot background, Basic Black and Kiwi Kiss, and More Mustard for the moon. The "boo" is embossed in white using the Schoolbook Serif Alphabet.

Where have I been?

Where have I been? I haven't posted anything in forever! Well, the photo above should give you a hint of what my excuse is this time! Yep, the whole family went on a cruise. Above you can see my kids (the two little specks) by the butt of the ship in Nassau.

It's amazing how being out of town for six days can get me behind! Anyway, enough with the excuses... Look for my Halloween card made with the Nursery Necessities set very soon!

This is a large card (6 3/4" x 5 1/2") that I made for my daughter this week after learning that she was voted Student of the Month at her middle school. I wanted to make something a bit fun and funky, and I think it came out pretty well. The background papers are all from the retired Polka Dots and Paisleys Designer Series Papers. The "way" is stamped with Short Order Alphabet in Versamark and embossed with white on Tempting Turquoise, and then punched out with the My Way Jumbo punch. The "2" is chipboard glittered with the Two way glue pen and Dazzling Diamonds, and the "GO" is die cut with the Serif Essentials dies and the Stampin' Up! Big Shot machine.

Nursery Necessities Gift Card

This is a sweet little gift card that I did with the Nursery Necessities set quite a while back. The card is a 3" square Textured So Saffron card layered with Bashful Blue and Whisper White. I stamped the moon in So Saffron craft ink and embossed with Heat n' Stick powder and then applied Dazzling Diamonds on top.

Wow Flowers in Kiwi Kiss

Okay, I think this is the last Wow Flowers card for a while. I've really been giving this little set a workout. This one was one of my convention swaps in July, so those of you who have been to my place to stamp have probably already seen it, but for the rest of you...

The base card is Kiwi Kiss stamped with Kiwi Kiss ink, the next layer is Pacific Point stamped with Pacific Point ink, then the focal point is stamped in Pacific Point ink on Whisper White and layered to Chocolate Chip. Chocolate Chip grosgrain and a little paper piercing finish it off.

Another Wow Flowers...

I did this one a while ago - I needed another sample to display with the convention make-and-take box of note cards of the same colors. I like to have a couple items with some common colors to display together in my stamping area - just looks nicer. And, since I was doing a suspension card for my clubs last month, I figured another sample was in order for that also.

I used the Polka Dot background stamp - LOVE that! I embossed it with Versamark and clear powder on the 3"x6" Chocolate Chip card. Then I layered some scalloped white card stock and the Pirouette Pink, punched the circle and assembled.

Pumpkin Flower Basket

I've really been on a Pumpkin Pie kick for a while, and the super cute Sweet Always paper isn't helping...

This was one of two project options for my stamp club members last night (the other was a Halloween version). I had them each try out the new Big Shot Machine and the Stampin' Up! Exclusive Basket and Blooms Bigz Die. I think they were all impressed with out easy and quick it is to cut this little basket. Now that SU offers bulk uncut chipboard it is even more fun to play with!

For this one I used Pumpkin Pie card stock, the dot and Thank You stamps from Enjoy Every Moment set, the Basket and Blooms die, Sweet Always DSP, bulk On-Board Chipboard, Fire Round Rhinestone brads, Pumpkin Pie and Chocolate Chip Classic ink, and Chocolate Chip Grosgrain ribbon.

Embrace Life in Kraft

Here's a super simple card I did months ago after seeing some cool cards at Target. The Target cards were all square kraft cards with a line image (some flowers, one martini glass, I forget what else), with some bright glitter in just a small area. I'd never think of putting glitter with kraft - two different looks to me... but I liked the cards. Okay, so my version didn't end up with bright glitter, but there is a little. I just love the simplicity of black line art on the Kraft card stock.

My card is 4 1/2" square, using Embrace Life and Fundamental Phrases stamp set. I used the word window punch to punch out the phrase and pop it up on Dimensionals after I stamped one "Hi There" upside down! OOPS!!! I added the brads to the verse to fill up the space and liked it better than the original non-punched and popped version, so I did it to all the cards that I made that day. Mistakes often turn out for the better, just go with it! Oh, the images are stamped in black craft and embossed with clear powder, and there is a little Dazzling Diamonds glitter on the stamens.

Organic Grace Meets KWernerDesign Color Challenge

I had so much fun doing Kristina Werner's Color Challenge a few weeks ago that I've been wanting to try another. I'm finding that doing a challenge helps get me out of a rut, and I definately get in those, stamping and otherwise! LOL! The above card is the one I like the best, but it's not at all what I had in mind to start out with... Well, the stamp set is, but not the layout or the balance of colors. I wanted to keep with the botanical inspiration of this week's challenge:

I was originally thinking a long card... maybe with three images punched out. I didn't like the way that was looking and ended up with the card above. Then I decided to still try to make use of the pieces I started out with, so I did this second card:

It turned out okay, I think, but I like the top one better. What do you think?

Oh, so the sets I used are Organic Grace (Hostess set), Inspired by Nature (verse on the first card), and Dreams Du Jour for the verse on the second. I'm listening to New Age music today and feeling very philosophical I guess. The ink colors are Bravo Burgundy, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip, and So Saffron. Both cards start out with a Bravo Burgundy base and are layered with Old Olive and then Confettii Cream.

Poppin' Pastels Lovely as a Tree

Wow, I should have posted this one sooner... This card was one of the two we did in my Techniques Class on Pastels this summer. The Weathered background, Rough Edges Alphabet, and Copper Hodgepodge Hardware are now all retired! The focal point uses a tree from Lovely as a Tree, which is still current at least. The card stock is Kraft, Old Olive, and Chocolate Chip. The inks used were Versamark and Chocolate Chip. The tree was stamped in Versamark and then colored with the Pastels.

Embrace Life and Scallops

Another Embrace Life card... this set is one of those that I keep using again and again!

This one is a Certainly Celery card with the bamboo stamped in Certainly Celery on the upper half only as a background. The flowers are stamped in Basic Black and colored with the Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery markers and then accented with the white gel pen in the center. Bashful Blue is cut with the Scallop Edge Punch and also accented with the white gel pen.

Inspired by Nature from the Convention

This was one of the cards we did at this year's convention.

The card is a 3"x6" card of Chocolate Chip with Kiwi Kiss as the front panel and a Large Oval punched from Very Vanilla. The grass from Inspired by Nature was stamped with Versamark and then the flowers stamped in Chocolate Chip over that. The verse is also stamped in Chocolate Chip. Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon is attached through a hole punched in the oval.

Sweet Build a Flower

I usually try to post things with current Stampin' Up! merchandise, in case someone wants to buy the necessary items to duplicate the project, but I liked this one so much I couldn't skip it. As you can see from several of my recent posts, I've been having a good time with my new Big Shot and the dies I've gotten for it. This card was one I made the Build-a-Flower die, some retired background paper (name escapes me), Love and Happiness Rub-Ons from last Sell-a-bration, and Whisper White card stock as the base. The embossing on the white was done with a Cuttlebug embossing folder and my new Big Shot machine.

Suspended Butterfly

This was my stamp club's most recent project. I had seen suspension cards quite a while ago, but never gave them a try. This was my first. It's an easy and fun variation on a regular old card. Kids would love the movement... have to make some "kids cards" soon!

For this one I used Dreams Du Jour stamped on Kraft card stock and sponged with some Whisper White Craft ink. I stamped some additional butterflies on Bashful Blue with Versamark. The verse and ribbon are both Always Artichoke.

Scallop Circle Wow Flowers

I've been playing with some of my new Big Shot dies and having a blast. I came up with this one using the Sweet Always Designer Series Paper and Wow Flowers earlier this week. I just keep going for that little Wow Flowers set... I really need to hid it on myself! LOL!

Anyway, the card is a regular folded card of Pumpkin Pie which I then cut with the Scallop Circle, keeping some of the fold inside the cut line. After that I cut a half circle of the DSP and extended over the fold a bit to make the scallop circle look complete. I pierced the scallops on the Pumpkin Pie half, added the verse and the circle accented with a rhinestone brad, then a bit of ribbon and hardware and it's done! I had a little trouble deciding on this layout, but once I slid the ribbon over to the left side instead of having it run right down the center of the card, I was happy with it. Hope you like it!

Embrace Life with Ruby Red

While doing some "housecleaning" on my computer this afternoon I found this card I did awhile ago and never posted. It is a super simple card, but I thought I'd post it anyway since sometimes you need that... In fact, I think I'll start a "Super Simple" label, so when you are looking for an idea that is really quick you can click on that link on the right.

Anyway, this is a top fold 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" card made with textured Ruby Red card stock. I think textured card stock is a great option when you are trying to make a decent looking card quickly. I cut a 1" wide strip of Basic Black and "embossed" dots on it using the Crop-a-dile. The image was stamped on watercolor paper (another great option for the simple but classy card) with black Staz-On and colored using the Watercolor Wonder Crayons. The watercolor paper is mounted on the card using Dimensionals. A bit of Always Artichoke ribbon cinches the stem.

Wow Flowers with Circle Punches

Okay, I don't know what came over me there with that last post... Those who know me probably think that I was abducted by aliens from Planet Laura Ashley. I mean, I like the elegant look, but I usually don't do things that feminine lately. So, on the way to the Post Office I came up with another idea for Kristina's Color Inspiration. I thought it would be fun to do another card that had a totally different look. Here it is:

Okay, this is a very simple card, but simple is good sometimes, right? I used Chocolate Chip Textured card stock for the card, Chocolate Chip Classic ink, Regal Rose, Pink Pirouette, Certainly Celery, and Very Vanilla card stock, a circle Fire Brad, and Chocolate Chip Double-Stitched Grograin Ribbon. I used both the 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" circle punches for the circles.

Dreams Du Jour with Top Note

I've never done a challenge before in my stamping life, but I admire Kristina Werner's Blog so much I decided to give her 20th. Color Inspiration a try. Below is the challenge that was posted on her blog: http://www.kwernerdesign.com/. I had gotten the idea to use the new Top Note Die from Stampin' Up! this way a few days ago and these colors were perfect for use with the Dreams Du Jour set and the Top Note.

So, I used Very Vanilla, Pink Pirouette, Certainly Celery, and Chocolate Chip card stock. I stamped the Bella Toile background on the Vanilla with Pink Pirouette ink. I stamped the Love you image from Dreams Du Jour in Timber Brown Staz-On twice on Very Vanilla and watercolored both with Pink Pirouette, Regal Rose, Certainly Celery, and Chocolate Chip. I cut out part of the flower on the one and mounted it above the other with a Dimensional. I cut the Love you image out and layered it to Chocolate Chip which I also cut around the outline of the Love you image. Then I mounted both pieces above a Scallop Square of Certainly Celery. Oh, the ribbon is Chocolate Chip Taffeta.

Wow Flowers and Summer Picnic Again

Here's another Wow Flowers with the Summer Picnic paper. Can you tell that Summer Picnic was the only current DSP (Designer Series Paper) that I had to work with last week???

Anyway, this is one of those circle closure cards. The card is a top fold with the bottom 1 1/4" of the front folded up. Then a half circle is punched at the fold using the 1 3/8" punch. The circle focal point is attached to the inside of the card with Dimensionals and acts as a clasp.

The colors for this card are Old Olive ink, Real Red and Whisper White card stock, and of course, the Summer Picnic paper. A red brad and Red Grosgrain add some detail.

Eastern Blooms Faux Silk

Okay, here's a new set featured in the "Never Before Seen" promotion: Eastern Blooms. This card is one we will be doing in my September Techniques Book Class "Faux Silk and Faux Alligator Skin". Aged Paper and Stamp of Authenticity

This is one of the more involved cards we've done in my Techniques classes. We used the "Faux Aged Paper" technique using lemon juice and the heat gun on Naturals Ivory card stock. Stamps from Stamp of Authenticity, Define Your Life, and the Linen background stamp, all from Stampin' Up!, were used. The card stock is Chocolate Chip, Naturals Ivory, Always Artichoke, Kraft, and Purely Pomegranate. We also used Always Artichoke Designer Series Paper and Antique Brass Hodgepodge Hardware. Oh, yep, there's a little bit of twill tape on the right side too.

Back from Convention

Whew... I'm back from the Stampin' Up! Convention and finally getting caught up! I held a New Catalog Preview Open House last night, so I was focused on that ever since stepping off the plane Sunday night. Now that that is over, I'm getting back to normal... until next week's club anyway!

Well, convention was tons of fun and I've got lots of new ideas. I want to play with many of the things I saw before they leave my mind forever, so I won't be posting any convention samples or new sets for a few days. I haven't photographed them yet... but soon...

Anyway, one of the highlights of the convention, besides all the free stamps I got, was meeting a fellow blogger: Kristina Werner. Kristina is a fabulously talented stamper who just happens to work for Stampin' Up! She was working in the Momento Mall the first day I went in and one of the other Stampin' Up! employees was kind enough to take a picture of the two of us together:

Heartfelt Thanks on Chalkboard

This card is one of two we did in my most recent Techniques Class, which was "Chalkboard Technique" and "Poppin' Pastels". Also, I'm doing some of these for my convention swaps... WHAT was I thinking! This isn't the quickest card for mass-production! Luckily I've had some help from my daughter, Ellen, and her friend Frankie for the swaps. Thanks Girls!!!

For this, I stamped the flowers from Heartfelt Thanks in Craft White on Basic Black and allowed the ink to dry. Meanwhile, I stamped a 1 1/2" by 4 1/4" piece of Old Olive with the Polka Dot (109276) background stamp with Basic Black ink. Thank goodness that background stamp isn't retiring!!! Also I stamped the Lavendar Lace card with a verse from Stem Sayings, again using Basic Black Classic Ink. I attached the Old Olive piece to the card and tied the Black Grosgrain around the front by making a slit in the spine of the card. After the craft ink dried, I colored the image with Stampin' Pastels, added a tab made with the Word Window Punch and a black brad, and attached the black card stock to the card using dimensionals.

My Garden

Well, you may recognize this page if you saw my earlier Friends Page (March 2008). My clubs liked that page so much I decided to reinvent it using current Stampin' Up! products. For this one I used Rose Red card stock instead of Purely Pomegranate (couldn't get enough of just that color in 12 x 12 for my clubs), the same Pumpkin Pie Designer Series papers, and the Pumpkin Pie Die Cut Blooms. I sponged the die cuts and layered them with Rose Red and Chocolate Chip punched flowers and circles to create my various flowers.

I thought it would be fun to document my garden in the back each year, so hopefully this is the first of many annual garden pages!

Touch of Nature Split Negative

This is another Split Negative Technique sample I created for my class in May. I used the flower from Touch of Nature and the "simple" definition from the Define Your Life set. Black and white card stock, white embossing powder and black ink make this card simple yet striking. A bit of tafeta ribbon softens the look and paper pierced corners add a bit of detail.

Touch of Nature is a great set... I hate to see it retire! Get yours while you still can!

This is the second card for my most recent Techniques Classes. Inspired by many of the works of the late Andy Warhol, this technique simply repeats an image multiple times on different colors of card stock arranged in a grid. It is easiest if your image fits in a square punch (I used Stampin' Up! 1 3/8" square punch here), but the images can be cut into rectangles or larger squares by hand if this works better for your design. For this one I used (upper left to lower right) Pink Passion, Old Olive, Purely Pomegrante, Certainly Celery, Pumpkin Pie, and Tempting Turquoise. Those squares are matted on a rectangle of Textured Basic Black, and then mounted with dimensionals on a Whisper White card. I stamped "happiness" from the Warm Words set in the lower right hand corner before, though.

Friendly Flowers Split Negative

This is one of the two cards my latest Techniques Class is doing. The Split Negative technique yields dramatic results without much difficulty. For this one I used the Friendly Flowers set and black and white, but any two colors work well as long as you have matching ink and card stock to reverse the colors of the image. Stamps with a strong line of symmetry work best, but nearly any image will do.

Celebrate 8

Hi Everyone! Sorry it has been so long since I've posted... I've been busy doing non-stamping things like painting, wrangling with a new computer, and darned if I know what else. The time just flies when you're having fun they say... so I guess I must have been having lots of fun!!! LOL! Anyway...

This month is National Scrapbooking month, so to start the month off, I thought I'd post my most recent scrapbook page. This page uses the direct to paper technique and chipboard (which is all 25% off from Stampin' Up! this month). I started with Ballet Blue card stock, smeared Whisper White Craft in over top in both horizontal and vertical directions, and spread the ink a bit with a sponge where I got it too thick. While that was drying, I cropped my photos and layered all of them on Real Red card stock. After the white ink dried, I stamped the star from Nursery Necessities along and underneath where I planned to place two of my photos, and stamped "Celebrate" at the top. I added a On-Board Chipboard star, heart, and tag covered with Certainly Celery Designer Series Paper. The "8" is inked with Real Red craft ink and that and a red button were attached to the chipboard with mini glue dots. After I was all finished I added a few swipes of dots with the Lots of Dots Jumbo wheel. Both the dots, stars, and celebrate where stamped in Ballet Blue Classic ink.

Embrace Life with Crayon Resist

Today's post is a card done in my stamp clubs in January. I love this color combination so much, you will see it again really soon...

I used Soft Sky card stock and Designer Series Paper along with textured Chocolate Chip and Whisper White. The central image was stamped in Chocolate Chip Craft ink and embossed with clear powder. Then I colored the flowers with a white crayon before sponging the Soft Sky ink over the branch. The crayon causes the ink to resist, leaving me with delicate white flowers I desired. Then I distressed the edges of the white card stock and set it aside. I layered a 3/4" strip of Textured Chocolate Chip to the Soft Sky DS Paper and put a piece of scalloped Whisper White along the lower edge (scalloped with the slit punch punched repeatedly along the edge). Then I tied a piece of Double Stitched Soft Sky ribbon with a Hodgepodge Hardware buckle around the piece and attached it to the Soft Sky card with Dimensionals. The focal piece was then layered on top of everything with Dimensionals.

Pretties with River Rock and Artichoke

This is a simple card that my clubs did back in the fall and I never posted. The card is a 3" x 6" card of River Rock. On that I layered some Designer Series Always Artichoke paper and a small strip from Le Jardin paper. I dyed the silk flower from the Pretties Kit by misting it with water and sponging River Rock ink on it. Then I added a Jumbo Eyelet (love them!!!) and tied the now retired narrow Organdy ribbon through the hole. I stamped the zig-zag from All in a Row along the bottom edge in Always Artichoke and added a saying from the now retired So Many Sayings Hostess set. I really need to get these things posted before the sets retire!

Friends Page

I've had some people bugging me to post this page I did last month. (You know who you are! LOL!!!) So, here it is...

The base of both card and page are Purely Pomegranate textured card stock. Then I layered Pumpkin Pie Designer Series paper to both. For the page I used some self-adhesive die cuts from a Simply Scrappin kit that was a Hostess set a while back. I added clear Rhinestone brads to the center of several flowers. I covered the chipboard letters with the Pumpkin Pie DS paper and attached them with Mini Glue Dots. The journaling was printed right on the background paper. I added Pomegranate Double Stitched ribbon along the top of the DS paper and paper piercing at the bottom. The die cut flowers were attached with Dimensionals. Oh, and I did layer two of the photos on Chocolate Chip card stock and spiral punched the main photo's layer. I think that is everything.

I actually did a card with these colors first and liked it so much that I made this page. This is the card I made first, which inspired me to do the page:

For this I used the new felt flowers called Flower Fusion (110720 - $14.95). I also stamped the swirl from Baroque Motifs on the card. Again, I used the clear Rhinestone Brads, Double Stitched ribbon, and looking at it now, I should have added the paper piercing as well. I'll have to go do that...

So Many Scallops in Pomegranate

This is a little 3" x 3" card that my club will be making tonight. It uses the Sale-a-bration set "So Many Scallops" and the Sale-a-bration Rub-ons "Love & Happiness". The card is textured Purely Pomegranate with some Certainly Celery DS paper punched with the Spiral punch and layered. The flower is stamped on Purely Pomegranate and punched out with Stampin' Up!'s scallop punch. I added a jumbo Pewter Eyelet in the center of the Certainly Celery circle and a bit of Pomegranate Double Stitched ribbon. The "happy day" is from the rub-ons. Oh, and the stitching is Faux stitching with the Paper Piercing tool and the white gel pen.

I have been having a great time playing with the free Sale-a-bration rub-ons! Since rub-ons are new to Stampin' Up! and to me as well, I have been experiementing on putting them on more than just card stock - and it works great!

Here I applied some of the black Sale-a-bration rub-ons "Love and Happiness" to a glass jar (Bruchetta from Trader Joe's) and also on the ribbon tied around the neck and one little white flower on the lid. The "Love and Happiness" rub-ons are a great value because you get FOUR sheets - one each of: black, white, Old Olive, and Chocolate Chip!

Purse Bag with Notecards

There is really no stamping on this "purse", but it shows the construction of a something I gave as a gift to several friends and relatives this past Christmas. The purse box is made from one sheet of 8 1/2" x 10" card stock plus two handles 2" x 11" cut from a second sheet. Score the the 8 1/2" x 10" sheet 1 1/4" in from each side along the 10" side. Then score it 90 degrees, along the 8 1/2" sides, 4 1/4" in from each edge. Cut flaps by making 1 1/4" cuts along the short fold lines in to the intersection of the long fold lines. Fold on all fold lines and assemble with a strong adhesive like sticky strip (Monoadhesive won't hold well enough). Then you add the handles and decorate away! Actually, attach the handles before you assemble the purse bag - it's easier that way! Here I used Stampin' Up!'s five petal punch for the flower, and the rounded tab punch to make the handle reinforcers. This bag is made from Ruby Red and a retired background paper from Stampin' Up!

I filled my bags with coordinating Monogram notecards and envelopes like this one shown below. This card is from a different set, but you get the idea. Using patterned paper, a large alphabet, and a few embellishments makes the cards quick and easy. The card shown below uses the Designer Series papers in Rose Red, the retired Letterpress alphabet, Fire Rhinestone brads, and Twill tape. The base card is Purely Pomegrant stamped with the Linen background stamp.

The Noun Belt

I just couldn't pass up taking some photos of my cute little guy this day when he came home from school... with his "Noun Belt".

For this layout I used Blue Bayou texture card stock as the base and layered Wild Wasabi textured card stock on top. All the elements are from the Creative License Simply Scrappin kit offered as a Hostess Reward in the 2007 Fall-Winter Collection catalog. The kit actually came with Soft Sky card stock as well, but that didn't match Andrew's shirt, so I used only pieces without the Soft Sky color and added a bit of Bashful Blue instead to coordinate with the color of his shirt. I used the spiral punch on the Bashful Blue layer behind the central photo, a bit of Pewter Hodgepodge Hardware and Linen thread to add some details. The chipboard letters are colored with Bashful Blue craft ink.

Pick A Petal in Soft Sky and Amethyst

Today's card is one I did during the warmer months, as you can see from the green vegetation in the background... (no, I did not move to Florida)

I embossed the same petal from the Pick a Petal set (109445) repeatedly on different sheets of Soft Sky Designer Series paper and cut them out. Then I embossed the center on a scrap of Almost Amethyst, again using white embossing powder and cut the center out. To create the card I used a 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of Soft Sky folded in half, and then stamped the "Thinking of You" from the Three for You Punch Box (109227) along the top and bottom edges in Soft Sky. I adhered a one inch strip of Almost Amethyst card stock to a Soft Sky card and pierced the right edge and created faux stitching with a white gen pen. Then I layered a 3" square of Whisper White and assembled the flower on top of that. I used a purple Rhinestone Brad (109111) in the center of the flower and added a bit of white grosgrain in the lower right hand corner.

This is a fairly quick card and a great use of your small scraps of background paper!

Embrace Life with Bleach Painting

This is one of the cards we'll be making tonight in my Bleaching Techniques class. I love how this one turned out! It's pretty simple too!

I used the Embrace Life set with the Ginger Blossoms

Designer Series paper, Groovy Guava card stock, a small strip of the Textured card stock at the bottom, and just a bit of Certainly Celery DS paper. For the flower, I embossed the image on Groovy Guava with Vermark and clear powder, then used an Aquapainter filled with household bleach to paint around the stamen to create the lighten center of the flower. I cut the flower out and attached to the card using Dimensionals. Then I added a small half pearl from the Pretties Kit and a bit of Grosgrain ribbon to finish it off.

Heartfelt Thanks in Banana and Plum

Hmm... Banana and Plum - sounds like the start of a fruit salad! Anyway, this card is one I did a long time ago... I really need to get caught up on posting!

For this I used Heartfelt Thanks, Rough Texture Wheel, and Everyday Flexible Phrases stamps. The card is Barely Banana with a Perfect Plum band wheeled with Perfect Plum ink and the Rough Texture Wheel. I used the Slit Punch and a Antique Brass brad to create a little interest on the Plum band. The inks for the flower are Perfect Plum and Always Articoke. A Barely Banana button finishes off the Flower.

I adapted this from an idea in one of Stampin' Up!'s publications. I used Sweet Shapes and All in a Row along with the Rough Edges Alphabet. The card stock colors are Confetti White, More Mustard, Chocolate Chip, Rose Red, Regal Rose, and Old Olive. I used Chocolate Chip, Rose Red, and Old Olive ink. Some colored brads, Hodgepodge Hardware and ribbon (retired) finish it off.

Time for Hearts

Wow! It's February already! Time to make a Valentine for your special someone! If you don't have tons of heart stamps, a big chipboard heart is a great alternative. This one is covered in Rose Red Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up! Sanding the edges of the heart with a sanding block after the background paper is attached gives the smooth wore edge. The card base is Purely Pomegrante with a rectangle of River Rock stamped with River Rock ink and the Linen background stamp. A bit of twill tape and hemp ties it up. The verses are both from the Happy Everything set.

Circle Closure Cards

For these two cards I used "Circle of Friendship" but this design is great for any circle stamps or even anything that will fit in a circle:

I thought these cards were worthy of posting even though some of the supplies are retired. This design, I call the "Circle Closure Card" was one I saw in a Stampin' Up! publication.

Basically, you take a 4 1/4" by 11" piece of card stock, score it in the middle at 5 1/2" and also 3/4" from one end. Fold back the 3/4" piece and punch with the 1 1/4" circle punch half-way up on the fold. This gives you a half-circle notch. Then you use the 1 3/8" punch and 1 1/4" punch to create the circular focal point which serves to hold the card closed when mounted on a Stampin' Dimensional on the inside of the card and slightly overlaping the notch. These cards can be oriented and decorated in so many ways! Here are just two examples, one vertical and one horizontal.

Magic Mesh and Punches

I have quite a few cards I've done that use retired stamps and/or accessories that I've never posted. I'm going to go through them in the next few days and post those which I think show something interesting even though some of the stamps may be retired. This is one of them.

I saw this idea of using Magic Mesh and punches at the Stampin' Up! Convention several years ago. I still think it is a cool technique. For this card I used the retired By Definition background stamp and retired Daisy punch. The colors are Green Galore, Tempting Turquoise, and Lovely Lilac.

Christmas Spread in Real Red and Old Olive

I finished my Christmas spread in record time this year, due to my first scrapbook club meeting on January 6th. Gotta love those deadlines for pushing me into action! LOL!

This year I did a really simple page using Real Red as my base, with a strip of Old Olive Textured card stock at the bottom and a strip of striped paper from the (now retired) Dashing Designer Series papers. I did stamp "Celebrate" repeatedly in Real Red down both outer sides of each page, but it doesn't show up in the photo. I also stamped the "Celebrate" from
Celebrate Everything in Old Olive on the Old Olive Textured card stock. I used a few piece of Pewter hardware from the Hodgepodge Hardware set that I brightened up using a sanding block on both pages. The "Wii" W is from the Big Deal Alphabet and the i's are from Short Order Alphabet. "Love" and "Christmas" are both from
Fundamental Phrases.

Happy Haunting 2007

Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted since October 27th! November just flew by with our two week family trip to Australia, and then the Christmas rush when we got home. Sorry about that!

Anyway, this is a page that I did for my scrapbook clubs in November and December. The base is Pumpkin Pie which I wheeled with the Batty Jumbo Wheel using Versamark in a blank cartridge. I added some Creepy Crawly Designer Series Paper and Batty for You accents, all mounted on Basic Black card stock. The title is stamped on Basic Black with Whisper White Craf Ink using the Well-Worn Alphabet and the year is Short Order Numbers. I added a Jumbo Eyelet and a bit of Black Gingham in the upper left-hand corner to finish it off.

Sweet Shapes 3-D Projects

These are projects I had a group of girls do for a birthday party. The frame in the back is magnetic, so they could use it in their locker. The pencil holder is a green bean can, and the purse is a die cut that was available from Stampin' Up! in a previous catalog. The purse box served as each girls treat bag.

I used Whisper White and Certainly Celery card stock, and Certainly Celery and Old Olive inks for all the projects. The stamps are Sweet Shapes and Everyday Flexible Phrases for the little tag on the purse.

Batty in Black

Boooooo.......! We were "Booed" tonight! Halloween is such fun!

This Batty Wheeled card is the last of my 2007 Halloween Spirits... an unusual one, since I don't often use non-Stampin' Up! supplies. For this card I die cut a white Sizzix ghost and mounted him on diminsionals above a piece of Basic Black card stock texturized with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. I wheeled the Batty Jumbo Wheel in black over More Mustard and tied it all together with a bit of Black Gingham ribbon and an "S" clip from the Hodgepodge Hardware Kit.

Touch of Nature with Cracked Glass

I was happy how this card turned out, even though it is a simple layout. I think simple lets the eye focus on the interesting part - the "cracked glass".

I used the Touch of Nature and Define Your Life stamp sets on this with More Mustard, textured Always Artichoke, Basic Black, and Very Vanilla card stock. The flower was stamped with black Staz-On and watercolored from the ink pad lids with the Aqua Painter. Then the "perfect" definition was stamped over top with Always Artichoke. I think next time I'll go lighter on the green on the stem, and then darken it up above and below after stamping the definition. I used Versamark and Glassy Glaze for the Cracked Glass finish and then sponged the cracks after. I also sponged the Artichoke and More Mustard with More Mustard ink to give it a more aged feel overall. Likewise, I dyed the Black Gingham ribbon with More Mustard ink. I stamped the ferns in More Mustard, added three Mustard eyelets to the black layer, and assembled it all.

Batty for You Circle Punch Closure

This card design was popularized at the 2006 Stampin' Up! Convention and is still a favorite of mine. Basically, just take any size card and score the top 1 1/4" in from the edge and fold it back over the front. Then use a 1 1/4" circle punch and punch half way over the fold to create the notch. Attach an image stamped on a 1 1/4" circle layered to a 1 3/8" circle punch to the inside of the card using dimensionals positioned just slightly over the edge of the notch to hold the card closed:

There are so many possibilities with this design. It is easy and fun when you are bored with a "normal" fold card. And, it is a great way to show off all those little images and circular stamps that are so popular now.

For this card I used Batty for You and three designs from the Creepy Crawly Designer Series Paper. The base card is a 4 1/4" by 11" piece of Whisper White folded in half. The only stamping is the little spider in Basic Black. I used the 1 1/4" circle and 1 3/8" circle punches as explained above and some black brads, Black Gingham, and Pumpkin Pie Grosgrain ribbon add a bit of detail.

Batty for You with Basic Gray

Another Spirited card... This is the project my stamp club made last week.

I used five punches on it: the Scallop Circle, the 1-3/8" and 1-1/4" Circles, the Round Tab, and the Spiral. The base card is a 4"x12" piece of Basic Gray Textured card stock folded in half to form a 4"x6" card. Then I added a 1 1/2" strip of Creepy Crawly Designer Series Paper, and a 1/2 strip of Basic Black The ghost is from Batty for You and the "Boo!" is the Rough Edges Alphabet. I also used a large circle Metal Edge Tag behind the focal point, and some Black Gingham, and Pumpkin Pie Grosgrain ribbon, a silver brad, and a regular paper clip to add a bit more detail.

Carved & Candlelit Boo

October already... time for stamping those ghosts and goblins!

This simple card uses Carved & Candlelit, All in a Row and the Big Deal Alphabet. The base card is Kraft, with Basic Black and Always Artichoke layers on top. The inks are Pumpkin Pie, Always Artichoke and Basic Black. A bit of linen thread added to the stem finishes it off.

Eat Cake Long Note in Saffron

Here is another card using the Cutie Pie Designer Series Paper. This time I used a So Saffron Long Note and the Eat Cake set. The circle is half of a 4" diameter circle in Rose Red. The present is stamped on Whisper White and punched out with a 1 1/4" circle punch then mounted on a Scallop Circle punched from Bashful Blue. I finished it off with three Saffron eyelets and some Bashful Blue Taffeta ribbon.

Wild Wasabi Love Note

There is very little stamping on this quick 3"x3" Textured Note Card. The card is Wild Wasabi. I used a small piece of the Cutie Pie Designer Series Paper, the Double Stitched Grosgrain in Pure Pomegrate, and a flower punched from Pure Pomegrate with the 5-Petal Punch. The Jumbo eyelet in the center and a bit of sponging really finishes off the flower. The "For You" is from the Happy Everything set.

Purse Card with In the Spotlight

Wow, it's been a week since I posted anything... sorry!

This is one of the quickest, most fun cards you can make! And, there are so many ways you can decorate your "purse"!

To make this card, take a 4 1/4" by 11" piece of card stock and score it 3 7/8" from one end and 2 7/8" from the other. Mark 3/4" in from each corner on the 2 7/8" flap (along the 4 1/4" side). Fold the 3 7/8" flap in and then cut from the corner at the fold to the mark 3/4" in on the top flap on both sides. This gives you the tapered sides. Fold the top flap and decorate as desired.

For this purse card I used Pretty in Pink card stock with Petals and Paisleys Designer Series paper and In the Spotlight Hostess set. This card was made super quick by punching out the flower with the 5-Petal Flower Punch. Pretty-in-Pink Grosgrain created the purse straps.

Baroque Motifs with Shaving Cream

For this one I used Baroque Motifs with River Rock and Always Artichoke. I did the shaving cream marbling technique on River Rock card stock using Always Artichoke and Sahara Sand refills. The card is a 4 1/2" square of River Rock with the swirl from Baroque Motifs stamped in River Rock. Then I layered the Artichoke card stock stamped with Always Artichoke ink and then punched squares of the marbled River Rock to layer on top of the Always Artichoke. The center medalion was stamped with Versamark and embossed with gold EP, adorned with a half pearl from the Pretties Kit and attached with Stampin' Dimensionals .
